About

I’m a homeschooling mom of three kids, ages 9, 15, and 17, and for the record, I don’t have this thing figured out. I have definitely learned some things in my homeschooling journey thus far, but I’m by no means an expert.

I love my kiddos and they make me laugh, but homeschooling them is truly the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. And not to brag, but I’ve been a missionary in the Middle East. Homeschooling is harder.

But it’s totally worth it. Every moment. I’ve grown more in my faith, especially the “live it out moment by moment” kind of faith, than ever before. I’ve become acutely aware of my lack of patience, confidence, peace, etc. It just forces me to rely more on Him. And that’s always a good thing.

Bio

I’m from New England originally, but I have a Bachelor’s degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Michigan. I accepted Christ as my Savior in 1988, but knew by the time I got to college that I had a lot to learn about what it means to walk with God.

I got involved my freshman year with what was then called Campus Crusade for Christ – now called Cru. I went to the Middle East with them during the summer before my senior year, then returned there for a year after I graduated.

When I returned to the States, I joined staff full time with Cru and worked on raising my financial support. In the midst of doing that, I met my now husband, Joe. I left full time staff to marry him, and when we moved back to the Midwest, I began volunteering with the local Cru ministry. Joe and I are both involved heavily with them to this day.

I discovered after I was married that I really liked writing. I always had liked it, but never before considered the possibility of doing anything with it. I took three correspondence writing courses through the Institute for Children’s Literature that gave me the tools and motivation to start freelance writing for magazines.

I’ve since been published in the following magazines: Encounter, MomSense, Brio, Thriving Family, Appleseeds, The Lookout, Parent Life, and Boys’ Quest. 

Blog

In this blog, I write about one of my passions. How does God use homeschooling to help us grow? Our kids, of course, will grow spiritually and educationally, but we do, too! I’ve seen God use this time in my life to chip away at my impatience, my temper, and my fears. He’s teaching me to rely on Him and to find my rest in Him. Our spiritual growth through homeschooling will be my main focus. It’s the topic of a book I’m working on currently.
